We’re not big on New Year resolutions, but we’re all about keeping things real. Meet the doers and dreamers behind The Tapestry Project SG.

This has probably been said to death by now, but heck, hindsight is 20/20!
2019 was riddled with highs and lows, from the valley moments of my post-surgery struggles, to the momentous mountaintops of hosting Singapore President Madam Halimah Yacob at Tapestry’s very first booth at the 9th International Together Against Stigma Conference. We also had the immense honour of being the mental health community partner for humanitarian digital storyteller, Our Better World.
Stories are key to connecting people and breaking the isolation that mental illness brings. The Tapestry Project SG was set up as an online publication because we believe in making mental health education accessible to all by bringing mental health information to where people are at, and from an independent ground-up perspective.
2020 is going to be an exciting year for us (think: themed submissions and Tapestry writerly gatherings.) We hope to continue shifting mental health narratives through our upcoming articles as well as workshops that will empower individuals and communities with relevant and relatable mental health material.
As for my personal goals? I hope to set better boundaries for myself, have the courage to say “no”, and stop apologising for making time to rest.

I’m looking to meditate more regularly to centre myself, and be a better boss, aunty, and doggo owner.
Having been trained as a book editor, I volunteer by copyediting submitted pieces to make the stories easier to read and more impactful.

December 2019 was pretty hard on my mental health and it feels like I’ve reset all the good progress I made throughout the year.
My goal for 2020 is to be more present, and to find my drive again. But I’m hopeful of the changes the new year will bring for me! I hope to find some space for myself to think and stretch my creative brain muscles, while working towards my personal career goals. It’s tricky balancing passion and work, so I’m working on drawing clearer boundaries and building healthier relationships to balance the two.

New Year’s resolutions typically don’t last more than a couple of weeks with me – they just go in one year and out the other (pun intended). Which is not to say that I don’t want to commit, but plans, I’ve come to discover, constantly change. Consequently, with all the changes coming my way in 2020, from graduation to starting National Service (oh, joy), my only goal is to live each day as a memento mori 🙂
If you write in to Tapestry, likelihood is, you’ll hear from me not too long after. My journey into the Tapestry team was more of a string of happy coincidences, and where I now get opportunities to care by connecting with the authors behind each story.

I’m still in recovery, so 2020 is the year I hope to be able to finally reach a point where I can let go of the desire to let go. Perhaps that’s not even a goal, but a hope, a distant one at times.
For now, Tapestry is a platform and home for my voice on mental health issues. On the side, I use my working experience (don’t want to waste it) to help with the IT side of things.
